Is your plumbing holding water refers to having a home inspection to reveal the possibility of a problem. To those unfamiliar KITEK fittings were used in homes throughout the Las Vegas Valley and elsewhere that, over time, are corroding and causing massive flooding and damage to homes. In fact there have been numerous class action suits brought on builders, manufacturers, etc.

A home inspection by a certified inspector such as Sherlock Home Inspections can alert you to the possibility of KITEK in the home you are in the process or thinking about buying.  What can be done in identifying the problem you can be told that a qualified plumber be called to investigate as possibly the fittings are not always able to be indentified. A licensed qualified plumbing can do an invasive investigation and for sure tell you if in deed you have KITEK or not.

Why should you or your client be concerned about KITEK? The obvious reason is cost as to repair an average home equipped with KITEK the price tag is between $8,000.-10,000. In the case of BANK OWNED I am sure you would rather have the bank pay this amount than eating it yourself. If it can be proved there is KITEK in the home, the seller has the option to repair themselves or credit the buyer. Only course after purchasing the home is entering in a class action law suit.

Lastly, the time period for being included in a class action suit to cover this condition is March 31, 2012. There is no retrobution after this date as yet from the court. Should you buy a home (especially investors) sight unseen and not perform a home inspection, you are doing yourself an injustice. We have informed many buyers and their agents of KITEK and the possibility of KITEK in a home that the cost of the inspection is insignificate in conparison to the charge of a retrofit.

I hope this helps anyone thinking about purchasing a home and also do your DUE DILIGENCE in selecting a home inspection company. Let them prove they are insured as it is quite expensive and Certified by the State of Nevada, a must for doing home inspections in Nevada and that it is current. KITEK is known by other names also so it is a good rule of thumb to have an inspection on any property you are considering.
